hey everyone,

Colour Sun are without a doubt my favourite band to be playing music in Cornwall right now, their sound is so full of light it is heartbreaking to listen to. Not only because it is soundtracking my dreams about running home to Falmouth from my current exile - please buy a copy of their debut album, it is magnificent & will be beneficial in your life, true souls.

New promoters in Falmouth/Penryn

The new promoters for the Penryn/Falmouth axis are called bSHO, they are going to be putting on some exceptional music in Falmouth and Penryn this autumn and beyond. Their first unmissable show is with William Tyler and Hiss Golden Messenger, a stunning double bill of American songwriters, coming next Monday, October 3rd at Miss Peapod's. Sorry for the late notice, I'm still settling in to my new living quarters in Brighton.

tickets are £7.50 from Jam and Miss Peapod's 01326 374424

before I get on with it I would encourage anyone on this list who wants to get updates from bSHO to either use Facebook to connect with them here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/BSHO-Presents/282788228413843 or email them on bshopresents@gmail.com to say you want to join their mailing list. Coming up they have mighty American psychedelicists Eternal Tapestry (late Oct) and Date Palms (early Nov).

Here is William Tyler

William Tyler is well-known for his work as part of Lambchop and Silver Jews and has just released the album ‘Behold The Spirit’. His recent tour dates supporting Yo La Tengo caused a whole heap of excitement in the US, and now he’s coming to spread the magic over here.

Reactions to the album have been widely euphoric, Pitchfork giving it a Best New Music tag and talking of “the grace and elocution of Behold the Spirit, the debut from young Nashville guitarist William Tyler. Arguably the most vital, energized album by an American solo guitarist in a decade or more, it accepts Fahey’s legacy while escaping its shadow. Moreover, it’s simply a joy to hear.”

Hiss Golden Messenger 'Bad Debt' by blackmaps

A unique singer and writer of songs, Hiss Golden Messenger has impressed music critics across the board, from David Bowie, to Uncut magazine, to The Independent and even the Daily Mirror. The following quotes don’t even say the half of it…

“Bad Debt recalls the ragged blues and front-porch musicians of eras long since gone and modern folk legends like Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and Iron & Wine, only with more edge than Sam Beam, more understatement than Will Oldham, and with a little Hank Williams tossed in for good measure” Mezzic.com

“Mystical country. An eerie yellowing photograph.” David Bowie

“Fans of Will Oldham and Bill Callahan will find much to admire” The Guardian

“a thing of gentle charm & unmistakable cosmic American beauty. It is, for those of us who delight in the likes of Iron & Wine, our first contact with a new & wonderful songwriter” Independent

“nine folk-soul nuggets... these are powerful songs” Uncut
